Butterby Shetlands - News - Update

Apologies for the delay in updating this section but such a lot has happened. This season has seen six championships and other achievements for Butterby Shetland ponies throughout the country.

From the North West with youngstock champion Butterby Ophelia, owned and shown by Steph and Paul Atkinson to the Royal Show where Butterby Express was first stallion for the second year in succession and went on to be Reserve Champion and Champion Opposite Sex for the second year running.

Prior to the Royal Express had been first in his class at the Northern Horse in the CHAPS classes and went on to win in the stallion class in the Shetlands and go on to take the Championship. This was followed by a Reserve Supreme Mountain and Moorland just behind the Connamara Catsh Casherel (apologies for the spelling but if you know the horse you know it is a class act). Express was then in the last six of the Cuddy ahead of the Mountain and Moorland Champion which was pleasing and shows why it pays to stay until the end for the championships - although it was now 7.30 in the evening and we had arived at 7.30 in the morning!

Our chestnut yearling filly has followed her success as a foal by being reserve junior at an NPS show and first in her class whilst Butterby Kracker has travelled from Malvern to Cheshire and home to Durham to acquire his tickets and championships. A local sale of a colt has been pleasing because his new owner has put a lot of time into his turn out and it paid off with a second at the Northern Horse and a Reserve Junior Championship.

Despite the weather we have had a successful foaling with six Butterby foals and four births from last year's visitng mares.

We have had six mares to the stallions already this season as well as servicing our own mares.

Ponies have been sold to Devon, Derbyshire and Cumbria whilst we have bought in one young filly (now on her way to being a mare -we hope)

Our riding continues with Butterby Isis being prepared for Mountain and Moorland Classes.

Our trip to Sweden, our travel woes, along with others and last season have yet to be related so more is to come.

Most importantly the Northern Shetland Enthusiasts Group continues to thrive and you can use this address to find out more details if you want to come along to any of our events.
