Our Ponies

Originally favouring chestnuts, and still with a predominance of chestnuts, Butterby Shetlands has now developed a string of attractive and successful broken coloured and bay ponies with the occasional black.

Features of Butterby ponies, which are based on Eastland's lines, include good temperament, conformation, bone and attractive heads. However, a most striking feature is the impressive movement.

For over twenty years the breed lines have been refined in an effort to secure consistent quality in the stock being produced. To achieve this goal the stud now has two stallions serving the resident and visiting mares.

The result of all this effort is consistently successful performance in a variety of competitive environments; e.g. Shetland Grand National, Horse of the Year Show Ridden, Shetland Society Breed Show In Hand Championships, CHAPS and Commanchee.
